U.S. fintech Betterment confirms hack, says hackers sent fake crypto scam messages
U.S. fintech company Betterment confirmed it was hit by a hacking attack that leaked customers\' personal information, TechCrunch reported on Jan. 12. The hackers entered Betterment\'s systems on Jan. 9 through a social engineering attack, exposing names, emails, addresses, phone numbers and dates of birth. The data was used to send scam messages promising to triple cryptocurrency value if customers transferred $10,000. Betterment said it blocked access and is investigating with a cybersecurity firm.
