UK AI infrastructure shaken as data centre project faces resident backlash
Plans to build one of the world’s largest data centres near a small historic village in Scotland have met strong local opposition, widening tensions over Britain’s push to expand AI infrastructure. The proposed 600-megawatt facility near Auchtertool in Fife would cover more than 170 acres and include buildings up to 35 metres high. Scotland has tightened oversight for large projects, including notification rules and an environmental impact assessment request, delaying the review.
