Kakao's content publishing platform Brunch is revamping its judging and selection methods and will run the 14th Brunch Contest, it said on Sunday.

From this contest, the previous name, the Brunchbook Publishing Project, will be changed to the Brunch Contest.

The way winners are selected will also be revamped. The system will shift from a structure in which partner publishers chose the top prize to an independent review system by external experts hosted by Brunch, with a preliminary and final round. The final-round jury will be disclosed along with judges' comments when the final winners are announced in early February next year.

The scale and format of awards will also change. Instead of selecting 10 top prize works each year, it will select a total of 4 works: 1 top prize each in fiction, essay and poetry, and general categories, plus 1 new writer award.

How publication is linked will also be revamped. The system will change from one-to-one matching to a method in which Brunch introduces winning works and final finalists by category to multiple partner publishers. If multiple publishers propose publication to an author, the author can compare and choose directly.

The 14th Brunch Contest opened on Sunday morning and will accept entries for 8 weeks from Sunday through Oct. 18. Final winners will be announced in early February next year.

Seunghyun Lee (이승현), Kakao's head of social impact, said, "With this revamp, authors will be able to meet the publisher that best understands their work, and Brunch will play a role in connecting that meeting."
