Solana-based memecoin platform Pump.fun is set to make a sweeping overhaul of its creator fee structure, Cointelegraph reported on Friday. The existing fee system succeeded in attracting creators, but analysis said it had limits in building a sustainable market over the long term.

Pump.fun co-founder Alon Cohen said the initial fee model spurred trading activity but hindered sustained market formation, underscoring the need for an overhaul. The previous system triggered strong on-chain activity in the short term but failed to secure long-term trading stability. Critics also said creator fees were useful for project teams, but did not act as an incentive for ordinary memecoin issuers to build market liquidity.

Pump.fun said that, following the launch of its creator fee-sharing system, creators and CTO managers can allocate a set share of fees to up to 10 wallets. Teams can transfer coin ownership and revoke update permissions. The Pump.fun team does not take fees. Pump.fun fell behind rival platform Letsbonk last year, but recovered market share through aggressive PUMP token buybacks and a creator rewards programme.
