Krafton said on Thursday it has introduced a more intense extreme-cold environment for Erangel: Subzero through update 39.2 of PUBG: Battlegrounds.
The update strengthens the extreme-cold concept of Erangel: Subzero, which was introduced in December. More severe climate changes are applied across Erangel, limiting visibility with blizzards and further raising tension in survival situations. The changes apply to normal matches, ranked play and custom matches, affecting overall gameplay.
Another key change is a "satellite crash". It is a special zone that replaces the existing red zone, with satellites crashing from above Erangel and acting as a new threat. Players take damage if they collide with a satellite, but can obtain various items from fallen satellites, creating a choice where risk and reward coexist.
New combat tools have also been added to make the extreme-cold battlefield more tense. The "Blue Zone Generator" is a new weapon that creates a large cooling blue zone and can bring strategic changes to how battles unfold. The "special heat-resistant suit" is protective gear that blocks a certain amount of blue zone damage and can only be obtained from satellites. It gradually deteriorates as it absorbs blue zone damage, making situation assessment an important factor.
Some improvements were also made to the Rondo map. Item spawn rates were adjusted to match the recently changed environment, and spawn rates for guns, attachments and throwable weapons in secret rooms were increased to provide a more stable looting experience.
On the PC platform, a "secondary password" feature was introduced to strengthen account security. Only accounts with a secondary password can use ranked play. It replaces the existing SMS verification method to prevent account theft and provide a safer competitive environment.
Other updates include improvements to notification presentation in team deathmatch mode, the release of a new Survivor Pass, improvements to the Workshop dismantling function and various bug fixes.
