Naver Cloud said on Monday it launched Cloud DB Serverless, a serverless cloud database service that automatically adjusts computing resources based on database usage.

The company said Cloud DB Serverless is built on a container-based serverless architecture. It combines auto-scaling that automatically increases or decreases CPU, memory and storage resources in line with traffic with a usage-based billing structure to support companies in reducing actual costs.

A Naver Cloud official said Cloud DB Serverless meets South Korea's cloud and data regulations while allowing companies to optimise cost and performance at the same time. The official said the company plans to expand the service to public regions and strengthen support for various open-source databases.

For the launch, Naver Cloud applied two proprietary patents, including technology that optimises database backups based on real-time usage and automatically allocates server resources to reduce infrastructure costs and improve stability.

Seung-yong Jeong (정승용), a cloud DB platform leader at Naver Cloud, said Cloud DB Serverless is an optimal product that can solve both the inconvenience of resource management and wasteful costs that many companies have experienced. He said the company will focus on providing an environment in which users can fully concentrate on business by easing the burden of operating infrastructure.
