LG Electronics said on Jan. 22 it opened an “LG Laundry Lounge” at a dormitory at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee. The University of Tennessee is a leading university in the state, where LG Electronics has its U.S. production base. The company plans to promote product competitiveness and its brand through a campus with about 40,000 enrolled students and around 60,000 visitors a year.

The space is set up at “Fred D. Brown Hall,” the university’s largest dormitory. About 700 students live in the dormitory. LG Electronics contributed to the local community by donating products and facilities to the university.

The Laundry Lounge has 16 commercial washing machines and 24 dryers. LG OLED TVs, monitors and air purifiers are also placed there. Students can use it as a community space, such as resting or watching content while waiting for laundry.

The washing machines apply LG Electronics’ core component technologies, including an inverter DD motor. The inverter DD motor, directly connected to the washing drum, reduces vibration and noise. It improves durability and energy efficiency, enabling stable operation even with many users over long periods.

LG Electronics provides “Laundry Crew,” a dedicated app for its commercial washing machines, to improve convenience. Students can check in real time whether washers and dryers are available from their dorm rooms or classrooms. They can manage their time through laundry completion alerts.

The company is speeding up its push into the North American commercial washing machine market. Last year, it signed a supply contract with CSC ServiceWorks, the top laundry solutions company in North America, which operates about 1.5 million commercial washers and dryers across the United States and Canada. It also supplies products to Wash, the No. 2 company.

It was the first in the industry to apply an inverter heat pump using a low-temperature dehumidification method to an all-in-one commercial washer-dryer. It improved drying performance and energy efficiency at the same time. The company also provides a management solution for product managers. Features including remote control, error alerts and smart diagnosis allow real-time checks of product status. LG Electronics operates more than 1,900 service centers across North America and provides maintenance services.

Kwak Do-young (곽도영), vice president and head of LG Electronics’ North America region, said, “Based on industry-leading technological capability and brand trust, we will continue to expand LG’s differentiated customer experience in the commercial laundry market.”
