[Digital Today reporter Chi-gyu Hwang] Layer 1 blockchain Sui said on Wednesday it has been selected as a blockchain infrastructure partner for Samsung Wallet stablecoin support.
Galaxy device users will be able to send and receive Sui-native USDC directly in Samsung Wallet with free or near-zero fees.
Samsung and Sui aim to add stablecoin remittances to an everyday wallet, making it as easy to send money across borders as sending a message.
Sui said the service will begin as a pilot in the United States and then expand to global markets. Users in markets where the service is introduced will be able to send and receive Sui-based stablecoins in Samsung Wallet, which they have used for payments and for managing IDs, tickets and digital keys.
Adeniyi Abiodun (아데니이 아비오둔), co-founder and chief product officer at Mysten Labs leading Sui development, said: "Stablecoins have proven they can send dollars around the world in seconds. The next challenge is enabling people to have this experience in services they use every day." He said, "Samsung Wallet enables people around the world to use Sui-based USDC, and Sui provides the infrastructure so that this important economic activity can happen smoothly 24 hours a day for free."
Won-cheol Chae (채원철), vice president and head of the Digital Wallet Team at Samsung Electronics' MX (Mobile eXperience) Business, said: "Samsung Wallet focuses on making useful services easy and intuitive to use." He said, "Stablecoins have the potential to send money faster and more easily around the world, and we will enable Galaxy users to enjoy these benefits without going through existing complex procedures for virtual asset tools."
