Hana Bank wrote off 134.3 billion won worth of long-overdue debt to support credit recovery and an economic restart for financially vulnerable groups.
Hana Bank said on Oct. 8 it carried out the debt write-off for long-overdue claims, including those more than 5 years after being classified as special claims.
The write-off covered 5,738 people and 9,215 accounts. The total debt, including principal and interest, amounted to 134.3 billion won, and the entire debt burden was extinguished.
Those covered included younger people and older people with relatively weak economic foundations. Hana Bank explained it implemented the measure to support credit recovery and a return to economic activity for vulnerable groups struggling with normal financial transactions due to long-term delinquencies.
Hana Financial Group is expanding inclusive finance this year for vulnerable groups and small business owners, focusing on easing financial polarization, supporting financial self-reliance and expanding inclusive infrastructure.
A Hana Bank official said, "We hope this write-off of long-overdue debt will help financially vulnerable groups such as young people and older people get back on their feet."
