[DigitalToday reporter Jinju Hong (홍진주)] Apple has released iOS 27.2 beta 3 to developers, with a range of changes including an Apple Music logo revamp, control features in the Messages app and design tweaks.
According to IT media outlet 9to5Mac on Oct. 6 local time, the version was unveiled 2 weeks after the second beta was released. A public beta is also under way ahead of a general release later this month.
The most noticeable change in this update is an Apple Music brand refresh. Apple previously signalled a new logo when it announced "Apple Music Hall" last month, and iOS 27.2 beta 3 begins applying the logo. The new logo uses a bolder typeface than before and changes the "m" in "music" to lowercase. The same design has been applied to the subscription sign-up screens.
In the Messages app, signs emerged that a recommended actions control feature is in development. The code includes settings that let users manage suggested actions such as "Add to Calendar" in more detail. Apple appears to be preparing an option to turn off recommended actions for individual apps including Calendar, Reminders, Notes and Maps. The feature is not yet enabled, and it may still be dropped before the official release.
Apple Books has also seen some design changes. The new beta reflects adjustments to the Liquid Glass design and adds a new progress bar that shows reading progress. The changes focus more on refining visuals than expanding features.
Separately, macOS 27.2 beta 3 contains more traces suggesting touchscreen Macs are being considered. Apple is expected to unveil a touchscreen MacBook Pro as early as this month, and the new beta includes additional macOS optimisation work to support touch interactions. Several default apps now include a "gesture recognition tool", and the Dock includes a new animation tailored to long-press actions. This is being read as macOS interface changes preparing for an expanded set of input methods alongside shifts in the current Mac lineup.
Other fine-grained changes also continued. In the code, wording was found suggesting controls for nearby smart home accessories could be displayed in the Dynamic Island. The battery icon in the Settings app and across iOS has also been slightly redesigned, and Apple Fitness and Apple TV have added new start screens.
This beta appears to place more weight on interface refinements and preparing future features than on adding a large number of new functions. In particular, control over Messages "recommended actions", Dynamic Island integration for smart home devices, and the macOS "gesture recognition tool" are closer to clues that Apple is testing the next stage of user experience than to finished features. That makes it a point of interest which items remain and which are removed in the final version due later this month.
