[DigitalToday reporter Jaewon Choi] Anthropic launched Claude for Google Workspace in public beta, allowing users to use the AI Claude directly in Google Docs, Sheets and Slides.

On Oct. 7 (local time), Japanese media outlet Gigazine reported that users can install the add-on from the Google Workspace Marketplace and run Claude from the "Extensions" menu in Docs, Sheets and Slides. A chat-style sidebar opens on the side of the screen, and Claude reads and directly edits the file being worked on.

In Google Docs, it can rewrite text, restructure it and change heading styles. In Sheets, it writes and edits formulas, organizes data, and creates pivot tables and charts. In Slides, it can create new pages using existing designs or adjust text and layouts. Changes are also recorded in Google version history.

Users can also adjust the AI's editing permissions. In the default "confirm before editing" mode, Claude first presents the work and waits for the user's approval. Switching to "accept all edits" lets routine edits proceed without interim approval. Some security-related actions, such as adding links or inserting external images, still require approval.

Anthropic also released separate betas of Google Docs, Sheets and Slides connectors. While the add-on brings Claude into Google apps, the connectors let users paste Google file links into Claude chat or ask it to create new Docs, Sheets or Slides and work on them directly. It is useful when handling multiple files or creating new ones.

From the sidebar, users can also use other connectors such as Google Drive and Salesforce that an organization has linked. "Claude for Google Workspace" is available on paid plans including Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise.
