[Digital Today reporter Jae-won Choi (최재원)] Renault is set to present the E-Space Concept, reinterpreting the spirit of the Espace minivan, a symbol of the 1980s, for the electric-vehicle era.

Electrek and Renault said on Oct. 6, local time, that the E-Space Concept is a futuristic multi-seat vehicle inspired by the first-generation Espace launched in 1984. Unlike the current SUV-style Espace on sale, it adopts a one-box body that flows like a single space, reviving the early Espace's multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) character. Renault described it as a "concept that presents a family means of mobility for the electric-vehicle era."

In the name, E refers to E-Tech, covering Renault's electrification technology, while Space refers to a spacious and high-tech interior. The vehicle is 4.7 metres long, similar in size to the Kia PV5 and the short-wheelbase Volkswagen ID. Buzz.

The exterior modernises the silhouette of the original Espace. It uses U-shaped lighting at the front and rear that wraps the outline of the body, and places a luminous diamond emblem at the centre front that appears to float above pixels. A low beltline and low ground clearance also set it apart from recent SUV-focused designs.

Detailed powertrain and battery specifications, as well as driving range, have not yet been disclosed. The outlet forecast that Renault may apply a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery to the E-Space as it expands the use of LFP batteries in its electric-vehicle lineup. Auto Express also raised the possibility of applying a next-generation electrification platform, but none of these are officially confirmed specifications.

Renault will unveil the E-Space to the world for the first time at the Paris Motor Show on Oct. 12. It will also present the Renault 8 Gordini and the Renault 4 JP4x4 concept on site. Whether the E-Space will lead to a mass-produced next-generation Espace will depend on detailed specifications and development plans to be disclosed later.
